In June, Grasso wrote an opinion piece in the Chicago Tribune criticizing what he described as media coverage that unfairly associates Italian Americans with organized crime. However, he did not directly name Rovito in the piece.

“I’ve sadly watched some members of the Chicago news media stigmatize Italian Americans as Outfit members or mafia operatives whenever it serves to embellish a story,” Grasso wrote. 

“The Outfit still sells, pathetically. It’s time that it stops. Or as I like to say: Basta. Enough.”

The charter also made a series of other recommendations. It suggested that companies should designate a senior member of staff responsible for governance of the technology. It additionally recommended an AI oversight or ethics committee.

The framework also urged companies to implement rollback mechanisms and “kill-switch” controls for higher-impact systems.

For AI-powered customer support and chat, operators are encouraged to set clear parameters for when conversations should be moved to a human member of staff. These include repeated low-confidence responses, unresolved queries, indications of distress, or a customer simply asking to speak to a human.

In cases of identity fraud, operators were advised to close accounts upon establishing fraud and to reserve balances when bank account ownership cannot be confirmed.

Regarding account takeovers, the guide emphasised technical mitigations such as two-factor authentication for withdrawals and changes to banking details.

For poker collusion and bot use, recommended contractual provisions allow operators to redistribute illegitimate winnings to affected players. The guide noted that courts have validated such actions when supported by robust data.
