Swipe Games’ immediate ambition is substantial: its current “North Star”, Yashin says, is to reach €600m in bet volume per month.

Yet its longer-term vision stretches beyond simply adding more short videos to the casino floor. Ultimately, Yashin does not see Swipe as simply another category within the existing casino lobby. His ambition is for it to become a platform-level feature: alongside games, live casino and sports, players would find a dedicated Swipe button opening an endless feed personalised around their individual tastes.

He argues that some lawyers and licensees believe the Commission’s presentation of cases is detached from the operational reality but feel they have little option other than to accept the “regulator’s truth” when settling.

“The Commission’s approach to reporting may well create the inaccurate impression that the industry is inherently non-compliant,” he adds. A more balanced account might place failures alongside the majority of licensees that pass assessments or lead on customer wellbeing, although Waugh considers such a shift unlikely.

The “too easy to get a licence” argument doesn’t necessarily hold up to scrutiny, to be fair. Andrew Bentley, co-founder and CEO of regulatory technology startup LiSense, is one who rejects the suggestion.

A federal judge sentenced Santos to 87 months in prison last April on felony wire fraud and check fraud charges. After Santos served several months in 2025, US President Donald Trump granted the former congressman clemency, resulting in his immediate release.
